Islam Dua

Dua Before Fasting | Suhoor Intention Dua

Today, we will explore the significance of Sehri (the pre-dawn meal) and the importance of observing fasting (Roza) in Islam. In our faith, Islam is built upon five foundational pillars of worship, each of which is obligatory for every Muslim. Among these pillars, fasting holds a central place and is mandatory for all adult Muslims both men and women.

Fasting can be both obligatory (Farz) and voluntary (Nafil). However, fasting during the blessed month of Ramadan is a divine command and is compulsory for every eligible believer.

Before beginning the fast, Muslims partake in Sehri, a meal consumed during the last part of the night, just before dawn. While there is no specific du’a (supplication) from the Prophet (peace be upon him) exclusively for Sehri or the intention of fasting, making a Niyyah (intention) is essential in Islam and forms the foundation of all acts of worship.

That said, there are a number of Masnoon Duas authentically transmitted from the Prophet   that are commonly recited by Muslims during fasting and related times. These supplications serve to increase spiritual awareness and connect the worshipper with Allah during this sacred act.

Sehri: A Time of Blessing and Supplication

Sehri (the pre-dawn meal) is a highly blessed and recommended practice in Islam. Even if one does not feel particularly hungry, it is encouraged to eat something no matter how small to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This act is not only spiritually rewarding but also physically beneficial in preparing the body for the day of fasting.

Sehri is also a time when duas (supplications) are readily accepted, making it an ideal moment to engage in heartfelt prayers and remembrance of Allah. Before beginning the meal, it is recommended to recite appropriate duas with sincerity and focus.

Even those who are not fasting due to valid reasons such as illness or travel are encouraged to participate in Sehri with those who are fasting, as it invites blessings (barakah) into their day. However, it is important to practice moderation and avoid overeating, ensuring some space remains in the stomach. This not only aligns with prophetic guidance but also makes it easier to engage in acts of worship throughout the day and helps ease the fasting experience.
